The George based Outeniqua Historical Society / Outeniekwa Geskiedenis Vereniging,  promotes historical awareness and appreciation of the Southern Cape including the Little Karoo. The Society organizes outings, usually on a Sunday, to places of historical interest of which many are not generally available to the public. There are also early evening meetings at which members or guest speakers share their knowledge and experience of the area’s history. These meetings conclude with a Bring & Share Supper.

The Society has a particular concern about historical documents and photographs which should be archived. The Society assists the George Museum Archive Library which is a repository for on-going research on the history of George. The Museum has collections of  photographs, maps and documents.
